Tribal Research and Cultural Institute were established under the Tribal Welfare Department of Tripura in the year 1970.

It was established as per the decision of the Government of India for launching studies on the socio-economic aspect of the Different Tribes of Tripura

This institute deals in fundamental and applied research work in the Socio-Economic Field, Evaluation, Documentation of Tribal Art and Culture, Preservation of Tribal Heritage, and the Publication of Research Studies.
