Well, there are 31 National Institute of Technologies (NITs) and 23 Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) set up in India as Institutions of National Importance.

The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are governed by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 whereas Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961.

As of 2020, the total number of seats for UG programs is 23,506 and for PG programs 13,664 in all the 31 NITs put together.
